Inspired by Helen Cammock’s commission for Wysing’s 30th Anniversary, They Call It Idlewild, which explores the politics of idleness, and Wysing’s identity as a space to rest, we set up an audio livestream broadcasting from the edges of Wysing’s site. This was a virtual way of experiencing Wysing as a space to be idle and take things at your own pace. The livestream was running 24 hours a day until Friday 24 July, capturing the sounds of Wysing’s spaces, site, and natural environment. During lockdown, conversations around idleness and productivity became particularly widespread – we intended the livestream to bring a sense of calm and rest. The stream was available on Locusonus Soundmap, an experimental broadcasting platform and network of livestreamed open microphones. The full soundmap is available here.
